The Newest Health Risk of Drinking Soda
For many years we have been telling you why soda is so bad for your health. Recently, the research has been pouring in showing the health consequences and the disease risks from drinking these sugary drinks. A new study conducted in Sweden and set to be published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has found drinking one normal-sized soda can increase a man’s risk of developing more aggressive forms of prostate cancer by about 40 percent.
Earlier this year we reported on two other studies that found just one soda a day can increase a man’s risk of heart attack by 20 percent and people who drank DIET soda on a daily basis were 43 percent more likely to experience heart attacks, stroke or vascular death.
Other health risks associated with both regular and diet soda:
Kidney Damage. Women who drink two or more servings of DIET pop a day have a 30 percent reduction of kidney function.
Cancer, Seizures, Hyperactivity, Impaired Gait, Chronic Inflammation, Fatty Liver, Leukemia, Adenoma. 4-MEI (4-methylimidazole), a byproduct from the production of caramel color (an ingredient in colas that gives them their dark color ) is a toxic chemical that may cause these and other diseases.
Type II Diabetes. Drinking one or two sugar-sweetened beverages a day (anything from sodas, energy drinks, sweetened teas and vitamin water) are more than 25 percent likelier to develop type 2 diabetes.
Weight Gain (Regular Soda). Drinking one regular soda a day can lead to 15 pounds of weight gain in one year.
Weight Gain (DIET SODA). People who drink more than two diet sodas a day increase their risk of obesity by 57 percent.
Osteoporosis and Fractures. The high phosphoric acid content can pull calcium from bones making them weaker.
Tooth Enamel Damage and Cavities. Phosphoric acid and citric acid erodes tooth enamel, the outer protective covering of teeth.
If you would like to stop pursuing these beverage diseases and begin to prevent them, drink filtered water or try drinking This Healthy Beverage Instead of Soda.
