What Are The Predisposing Causes of Back Pain?

Back pain can occur from an acute injury. It also develops from long term overloading and stress on the spine. There are three main reasons why this happens and eventually leads to back pain.

  • Poor spinal alignment.  This results from falls, injuries and bad posture habits that cause the vertebrae of the spine to shift out of place.
  • Lack of creating and maintaining intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) during normal, everyday movements. IAP is the mechanism that stabilizes and protects the spine from injury.
  • Bad movement habits. If you continuously bend your back when you should be bending from your hips, for example, wear and tear will develop in your spine.

Is Back Pain Due to a Disc Problem?

Spinal discs are one of the most common spinal tissues to become damaged over time and cause pain.  A diagnosis of a bulging, herniated or degenerated disc does not necessarily mean you need surgery. Most bulging or herniated discs resolve with conservative chiropractic treatment.  One study found 80 percent of patients with neck or lower back disc herniations reported substantial or complete pain relief with chiropractic adjustments.  MRIs taken after chiropractic treatment showed 63 percent of patients had a reduced or completely reabsorbed disc.  In other words, the discs went back in place after the spine was adjusted back into proper alignment.
