2. Reduce or Eliminate Other Sweets. Cookies, candy, cakes and other baked goods have high amounts of sugar that cause weight gain.
3. Reduce Grains. Grain products such as bread, tortillas, pasta, baked goods, etc. can also cause excessive weight gain. Replace grains with other carbohydrate sources, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes and fresh fruit.
For people who consume a lot of sugar on a daily basis, going “cold turkey” can be difficult because of withdrawal symptoms. Sugar has actually been found to be as addictive as cocaine. So, if this is you, the best strategy is to reduce your consumption of a particular item by one half for a few weeks, cut in half again and again until you have eliminated it completely. For example, if you have a four sodas-a-day habit, try cutting it to two, then one, then none. Replace the ones you don’t drink with filtered water.
